I am going to share what my wonderful wife wrote over on her blog this morning:
Today was the day that we have all been waiting for….Derrick to sign his National Letter of Intent! We are excited to announce that Derrick will be playing football at Simon Fraser University in Canada next year!
Already have a deep respect for the head coach and the direction the program is headed. Aric has had many conversations with the coach over the last several weeks and we are just so impressed with his honesty and willingness to see the things in Derrick that others were unwilling to do. That means more as a parent than anything else.
We had thought at first that he would redshirt his freshman year, but the coach really thinks he will be part of the travel team and will see some playing time this upcoming season….whoo hoo!
We have heard nothing but good things about Simon Fraser as a university as well, very well known in Canada and respected in other countries also. Crazy to think he will be an international student too, so many pieces of the puzzle still to go, but making it happen easily as we can.
The other bonus for all of us is that since Dannielle will be in Bellingham, at Western Washington University, Derrick will only be about an hour north of her. Them having each other if need be, makes it easier for us to be across the ocean for sure.
It’s been a long journey, that indeed more than once has tested all of our faith in the processes, people, and ourselves, but definitely worth every single second of it!!
Looking forward to see our boy play on Saturdays!! ~Angie Becker
Like she mentioned, we are extremely excited and impressed with the new head coach Jacques Chapdelaine. When your son goes away to school it is nice to know that he will be around people that care and have integrity, great role models for young men to learn from.
