I have been a full time freelance photographer since 2005. I started my career shooting sports; covering the AAA Seattle Mariners club, The Tacoma Rainiers, Seattle Mariners, and UW Husky basketball, just to name a few.

My career has since evolved with the changing market, time, and technology. It is pretty fun to be a photographer in this era; I love being able to shoot something new everyday. One day it could be an engagement session, the next a senior session, then a sporting event, and maybe even finishing the week up with a wedding!

Here is a great offer from my favorite bag company, ThinkTank! You will get a free gift with any purchase of $50 or more. I use one or two of their bags on every shoot.

I had the pleasure this last week to shoot softball & golf for Saint Martin’s University. Shooting sports is what inspired me to start photography and being able to get back to it has inspired and motivated me in a new way.

Our year in review 2012

Such wonderful blessings in 2012; as we look back over our year. We met so many wonderful people who let us share a special part of their lives by documenting their wedding day.

We have celebrated the births of a few children born to some that we watched get married the year before, and look forward to at least one coming into this wonderful world in just a few short weeks.

We have watched our own children grow by another year; one who graduated high school and entered college! Watching our babies grow up and start to leave the home definitely has given us a different outlook on life. We tend to slow down just a bit and cherish the moments that we have just a tad bit more. It really is true that you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. It is also too hard to try and think that you would have done anything differently or taken anything less for granted, because the reality of life is that we don’t think about it until later on.

We continue to thank God everyday for the path He continues to guide us down and all of the blessings he has poured into our lives, especially when there are so many challenges and sadness in the lives of others; death, sickness, hunger, homelessness, etc.

We will be continuing to focus this upcoming year on growing our business by making memories that will last a lifetime, while also creating friendship that will grow with each passing day. We will also continue to cherish every moment that we have with our children, as they are our entire purpose for life at this point in our lives. We are also looking forward to continuing to get to know each other more, not as the teenagers who were in love with the idea of being in love, but now as the almost 40 year olds who are almost done raising children, hit the bottom of the barrel more than a few times, and have the best years of their lives ahead of them!  The other goal we have for 2013 is to continue to reach outside of ourselves for the good of others. Getting out of our bubble; personally and financially.

Looking forward to what 2013 has bring, and remembering everyday to love lots, laugh often, and to not sweat the small stuff. ~Angie

This post will be a little long….with pictures.

I just wanted to post a few (well a lot) pictures of what’s been going on lately.

I had the privilege to shoot a senior from Capital, who happens to be a younger brother of a past senior I shot. It’s always great when we get to know families and stay in contact with them long after the shoot. Anytime we ran into Nathan there was always a comment about what he wanted for his session. We ended up doing his in two parts cause of the great Northwest weather. First we went to Seattle and than finished at Ingersoll Stadium where Nathan plays for Capital High School, and we lit some stuff on fire for him.

I am also shooting for Saint Martin’s University once in awhile for different projects. When I got a call to shoot the monks for a special presentation, with the Men in Black theme. It was a lot of fun with the monks and they were great and flexible with the horrible weather we had the day of the shoot. I than found out that Saint Martin’s University gave Guy Fieri a framed print of the picture at their Gala fundraiser. Pretty Sweet!

Finally, we are 100% a football family and had another great year watching our son and the Capital High School football team as they made a run for a state championship. I was able to shoot a few games. When the season did end, I took some portraits of our son Derrick. This has been more of a tradition, since we have done it since he was in 2nd grade when he played for the first time.

Enjoy the photos ~ Aric

These guys were awesome!

What is Small Business Saturday you may ask?

Well it’s a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities. It is always the Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which are the traditional boost in sales days for the big box retailers. Small Business Saturday is the same concept just for small businesses. Those businesses that can’t offer you deep discounts on their products or services, but can offer you something different; a unique toy that a child wouldn’t be able to find anywhere else, a handmade soap, a knitted sweater, a homemade treat, special family photos that last forever, and the list goes on and on.

Why is this day important to small business owners? Well unlike big box retailers, who yes depend on consumers to drive their sales, small business owners pour their heart and sole into every aspect of what they do. A lot of them have poured every dime from their savings into this dream of their’s to have a little store front selling what is special to them, or providing a service in which a big box retailer could never compete. There is just something special about walking into a store and seeing the same smiling faces, that come to learn your name and your preferences. You can share life experiences with them and most of the time they aren’t too busy to have a chat with you.

So Saturday November 24th, won’t you make a commitment to visit atleast one small business and purchase at least one good or service from that place. It is sure to make someone’s holiday just a little brighter, and keep the passion and the drive continuing for that small business owner who may have many days that they feel like they just can’t compete and want to give up. Show them that this is what American business is all about……dreams and service to others.

With black Friday & cyber Monday and all the deals we wanted to get in on the fun also and offer 20% off any package when you book with us this Friday-Monday :)

visit the website to contact us HERE or email us directly  for more info Aric@AricBecker.com

Happy Holiday Season!!

Aric had the honor and privilege of shooting family pictures for The National Adoption Day event at The Thurston County Family Juvenile Courthouse. First official family photos for these parents and children, on a day that will be engraved on their hearts for the rest of thier lives.

National Adoption Day is an effort to raise awareness of the more than 100,000 children in foster care waiting for permanent, loving families; as defined by thier website http://www.nationaladoptionday.org/.

It takes some super special people to be foster parents, and then to officially adopt the children for whom they care, is another long and emotional process. Children are full of unconditional love, a grace above all others, full of joy, and bring so much happiness; it is a true blessing that these children have found someone who will return those same feelings to them, that they may grow into loving caring adults.

Aric was asked by the judge who performed the ceremony why he was there shooting this for free, he thought this question was strange, but simply replied with, “Because if there is a chance for me to give back, that is what I will do. We have been so fortunate in our lives, it’s nice to give that to some others as well.” She said that they have asked several other people in the past and the answer has always been, “No” or, “How much does it pay?” Sometimes we all tend to forget what the really important things are. Sometimes the smiles,  the tears of joy and a thank you are enough.

Congratulations again to the families that are officially complete now! ~Angie

Tyler & Nicole’s Hawaii wedding was too big to put into one blog post! Had to share it with you in two parts, the wedding day, and the day after session.

One of the perks of destination weddings, having extra time to do an extra session, for Tyler & Nicole we went to The North Shore  the next day. We got to show them some of our favorite spots and they got to see a side of the island they had never seen before, a side much different than the busyness of Honolulu.

First spot….Aric’s favorite grass field in Hale’iwa, where we just captured them being them. Next we took them to one of our favorite spots on the island for shave ice, where else but Matsumoto’s Shave Ice! These guys always have a line around the side of the building, no matter what time of day it is. We always make sure we stop here as much as possible when we are visiting, and try as I (Angie) might to get out of my box, rainbow is still my favorite!!
On with our tour of The North Shore, the world famous Bonzai Pipeline was the next stop for a few photos. We grabbed some great stuff, but the waves proved to be a bit large that day to do their sunset photos the way we really wanted to capture them, so we set off down the road to find a calmer shore. We ended up at Kammieland Beach, which was a bit calmer that day, but caught us all off guard when a “big” wave (small truly, in comparison to what is there in December) hit us all while we were shooting. We all had some great laughs and Aric & I really enjoyed being able to show Tyler & Nicole our favorite place on Oahu, our little piece of Heaven on Earth.
Our favorite part of the whole trip; having the honor and the priviledge to be able to capture Tyler & Nicole’s Hawaiian wedding in a way they will remember forever! We have already recieved text messages from Nicole saying, “It goes by so fast, there were so many things I kind of forgot.” and “Beautiful!!!!!!!” Makes what we do so worthwhile and puts a big smile on our face, as well as a warmth in our heart. Our passion to please people with our work, as well as just adding something special to the experience for them is what we want for them.
We hope these photos will take you away, even just for a little while, from your everyday routine and allow you just to relax and soak in a bit of the love, laughter, sunshine, and surf that we were able to have while  sharing in Tyler & Nicole’s wedding.

A destination wedding in Hawaii…yes please! This is what Nicole & Tyler wanted, and this is just what they did!

Nicole knew one thing when she started planning, that she just wanted to enjoy the day and not worry about anything, so she found a wedding planner to take care of the details. She found one of the most fantastic wedding planners we have ever worked with; Diana Caro-Salvador, of Oahu Weddings. She took care of every detail.

All of the family and friends who came over stayed at The Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. This is also where we set up Tyler & Nicole’s first look. It always amazes me the look on brides and grooms faces when they see eachother for the first time, even when they have been together since high school!

The wedding was held at Lanikuhonua, on the west side of the island in Ko Olina. Lanikuhonua, which in Hawaiian means where Heaven meets the Earth, is a magical place. With it’s gorgeous palm trees, greenery, beach, and fantastic sunsets, it’s hard to beat for any occasion.

The ceremony was short and sweet, just a decorated alter, some flower petals for the isle, and a fantastic Hawaiian prayer said over them.

After the ceremony we were able to use the natural beauty of Lanikuhonua for family pictures and some bridal party pictures. Next came a surprise for all the guests from Tyler & Nicole; shave ice!! Kona Ice brought a shave ice truck to the venue, it was a huge hit with the adults, and of course with the kids! We all become kids when we see the shave ice truck coming!

We all hopped back in our vehicles, after cooling off with our shave ice, to head back to Waikiki for the reception at the Coconut Club in the Aston Hotel.

Along the way we did take a pit stop with the bridal party at Ala Moana Beach Park, for few more bridal party pictures. Back at the Coconut Club, they all enjoyed a great dinner on the roof top patio, while waiting for the eveninng fireworks display to begin. That was an amazing site to see as well as the entire city of Waikiki lit up the night. They ended with some cake cutting, toasts, and some great conversation.

Some awesome vendors made this day come true for Nicole & Tyler:

Wedding Planner: Oahu Weddings

Make up & Hair: Beverly Kaneshige

Flowers:  Watanabe Floral

Venue: Lanikuhonua

Reception: The Coconut Club

Cake: Cake Works

Shave Ice Truck: Kona Ice

Stayed tuned for part two of this story, when we share with you the day after session!

Simple can be beautiful, and Kevin & Jenny’s wedding was just that!

They held the ceremony and the reception at Frontier Park, in Puyallup. Jenny put her own touch on the green and grey decorations; from the tables to the favors for the guests.

I will say though that I have not yet been to a wedding where there was so much crying; from the moment Jenny walked down the isle, to the toasts, there was not a dry eye in the house, including mine! (Angie’s) Which makes it mighty difficult to take pictures.

I think the highlight of the ceremony had to be the sweet poem that was on the seat of every chair that everyone read together. I have never seen that before, really love that even after all of the weddings we have shot, couples find away to make their wedding their’s in every way the can.

Love that they just did what they wanted and kept it a really relaxed, fun atmosphere. The caterer is another example of this; can you say Famous Dave’s!

Here is to many years of love and fun Kevin & Jenny!

Way too many things to say about this wedding…
So this may get pretty lengthy. Where to start, how about the venue; Wellspring Spa, at the base of Mt Rainier. A magical, rustic place, with several cabins for rent. Jamie and Jeff rented the whole area for the evening of their wedding so family could stay without the worries of driving back so late, for a very reasonable price I might add. All of the cabins on the property have a different theme and decor to go along with that theme. They even have a tree house! Yes, just what you think an actual tree house, just big enough for a sleeping area and a tv. If you need a kitchen though, all you do is climb down from your room and an outdoor kitchen awaits! Cutest thing ever! I could go on for days about all the cool things at this place, but this is supposed to be about Jamie & Jeff’s wedding so I will try to stay focused. If you would like to find out more about Wellspring you can go here for more information. www.wellspringspa.com. This wedding was all about simple, yet classy. Magical, yet outdoorsy. They made the cutest signs to point the way to parking, food, dancing, etc. Then even made signs to mark the path as guests made their way through the trees to the actual ceremony site; which was a magical spot in the middle of the woods, whiched looked like it could have been in a fairy tale book. You felt like you were in a whole different world, walking down an isle of lavender, and stone steps, to an alter of stone set between two trees. Decorations were a minimum, since the outdoors comes with it’s own decoration and beauty; but they did have glass mason jars tied with a simple ribbon, filled with LED lights. Also some flowers from the local market.

Back at the reception site there were more flowers decorating the tent as well as the tables. Guests were asked to decorate mason jars for their cups and reuse them all night. It was really cool to see how creative everyone got with their cups! The dishes….we have to talk about the dishes because I have never seen anything like it; Jamie & Jeff spent months going from thrift store to thrift store picking out plates and silverware. Not because they were looking for something specific, but because they weren’t! The only criteria on the plates were that it had to be a flower pattern. Truly a use and recycle wedding to the fullest!

The wedding was catered by Three Chicks Catering, which was a fantastic feast of fajitas, rice, and grilled vegetables. The cake and cupcakes were made by a close friend, who truly out did herself. Flavors were; red velvet, chocolate, carrot cake, lemon, and lavender! Yes, you read this correctly a lavndar cupcake, which if I might say so myself was delicious!

Can’t get away without telling you about the groomsmen’s gifts; Nike ID shoes individualized for each one including the groom himself!

So many magical details to this day and it could not have been more perfect; Aric & I were truly honored to have been a part of this special day!
